Spotify now lets you select which playlists you’d like to impact your recommendations less

Spotify has finally introduced an extremely requested feature. It has announced today that it will launch the new “Exclude from your Taste Profile” feature that allows you to ensure that your selected playlists aren’t impacting your personal recommendations.

For context, your style profile is the way Spotify interprets your musical preferences according to what you listen to. It is utilized to help inform recommendations. The new feature allows you to tell Spotify what playlists you’d like to make your recommendations less influenced so that you can enjoy an improved personalization experience.

There are many people who have a specific playlist for specific activities like working out, sleeping or even parenting. If you’re someone who enjoys white noise while you sleep or working out, it’s likely that your Discover Weekly and other personalized playlists could be filled by white noise. As a parent you’re likely to see your children playing music in the playlists that you’ve created. Because this type of music doesn’t match with your usual listening habits, it can be quite frustrating to see it pop up in playlists such as the Blend as well as Release Radar lists.

Spotify recognizes how irritating this could be, which is why it’s launching a new feature. Remove from the Taste Profile is available to users of the web and desktop devices, iOS and Android starting today. To use this new function, you’ll have to choose an album, then click the three dots at to the very top of your playlist, and choose “Exclude from your Taste Profile.” When you activate the feature streaming service, it will remove any previous and subsequent listening to this playlist in your profile. If you want to alter the mind of yours, then you are able to disable the feature by following the same method.

If you remove the playlist from your profile, you’ll be able to locate it on the Home tab. Spotify also mentions the “liked” songs within the playlist will also remain unaffected. So, while you’ll have access to the Pop 4 Kids playlist, it won’t feature prominently in your personal playlists or wrapped experience.
