Google has finally rolled out emoticons to people who use Google Meet for video calls. Beginning today, the company announced that this feature will initially be accessible on iOS and on the web, with Android support expected to be available shortly. Google first announced the feature in the year before however, it’s being used by users only now.
Users can either click or tap to the smile symbol located on the bottom of the pane to display an emoji of a reaction which supports different skin tones on the video chat. When people react using an emoji, you’ll notice a tiny badge in the upper left corner of their web tile. If there are a lot of people reacting simultaneously there will be an array of reactions displayed to the left sidesimilar to comments on live videos.

The reaction feature is on as a default feature, the host may choose to disable it for the duration of a specific call. Google announced that the feature’s launch will begin on the day of today, and it will become accessible to all users within the coming weeks.
Along with emoji responses to Meet chats, Google is also rolling out a Workspace version for Chats which allows people to begin either a private or group chat. The older version of Chat required users to “Start the group chat” as they typed their names. The new version, however, Google is removing that option completely.
