Microsoft appears to be seizing a window for Skype as rival Zoom struggles to sustain and protect its surging 200 million+ user-base from the recently discovered security and privacy issues.
Skype Feature
Skype, too, is one such alternative, which recently added a replacement Zoom-like video calling feature that goes one step ahead by letting hosts initiate meetings without signing abreast of the platform
The app’s new ‘Meet Now’ feature comes at the proper time for several people looking to host and attend meetings remotely, as Zoom halts feature development and sorts out security issues.
Meet Now
Skype‘s process is fairly quick and straightforward and allows for hosting a video conference within a couple of seconds. Every meeting gets a singular link that the host can share with participants, both of whom aren’t required to check in on Skype. Microsoft also notes that these meeting links don’t expire and may be used at any time.
Users on desktop can join calls through the Skype app or its web client, as long as they’re using Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
Mobile users also can join as guests. they have to possess Skype on their phones as pasting the meeting link during a mobile browser will prompt them to put in the app.
Skype features like screen-sharing and background blurring also are available on Meet Now video calls, along side the power to record conversations for later reviews, which Skype will keep for 30 days.
