This has left a small portion of Twitter users looking for new platforms to use as a platform to share their thoughts and have public conversations. Mastodon is one of those platforms that have directly benefited from.

The microblogging site has increased up to 2.5 million active monthly users over the past few days, an increase from 300,000 in the month of October 2022. The service isn’t necessarily a Twitter duplicate but that’s because it is decentralized. Instead of joining “Mastodon” itself, members can join groups or instances, with different guidelines, rules and moderation guidelines as well as home timelines. Although this doesn’t stop users from following another user in a different group however, many will opt to join a community that is reflective of the interests they have — for example, music, technology gaming, security or any of a myriad of other subjects.
