Brave has announced that it’s only using its own search index to run the website. That is Brave doesn’t depend on third-party services such as Bing no longer.
When the company first launched Brave Search in 2021 the company stated that it relied on different companies for more than 15% of searches. The following year the number was reduced to 7 percent.
“By the default setting, Brave Search users will receive all results from Brave Index. Brave Index, giving users completely independent results. As always, the results will protect the privacy of our users,” Brave said in an article on their blog

Brave said that initiatives such as Brave’s web discovery allowed users who used Brave’s web browser to contribute anonymous data to Brave’s index – which helped to push towards self-reliance. Additionally, Brave was concerned about the future of the Bing API, particularly in light of the fact that Microsoft intensified its relationship in partnership with OpenAI in the announcement of a substantial price increase for APIs that are used to build Bing’s index.
