WhatsApp launches official proxy support for users globally

WhatsApp is offering proxy service for users across the globe it announced on Thursday. This will allow users to continue to have access to WhatsApp even if their connection gets interrupted or blocked.

By using a proxy, users are able to access to WhatsApp via servers created by volunteer groups and volunteers all over the world that are dedicated to helping people connect without restriction. WhatsApp states that using a proxy ensures the same level of security and privacy it offers, and that private messages remain secure thanks to end-to-end encryption. The company claims that messages will not be accessible to anyone else in the process and not even those who are proxy servers like WhatsApp and Meta.

“Our wish for 2023 is that these internet shutdowns never occur,” WhatsApp wrote in the blog article. “Disruptions as we’ve witnessed during the last few months in Iran for months restrict human rights and prevent people from getting urgent assistance. In the event that these disruptions persist, we hope that this solution can help those in areas where there’s a need for secure and reliable communications.”

The new feature is available in the settings menu of users who are running the latest version of the application. WhatsApp states that if you have internet access, you are able to browse social media sites or search engines to find reliable sources that have set up proxy. In order to join a proxy you must go to your WhatsApp settings, then tap “Storage and Data” and select “Proxy.” Then you have to click “Use Proxy” and enter the proxy’s address, then tap “Save” to connect.

In the event that the connection was successful you’ll be able to see a checkmark. If you’re still not able to transmit or get WhatsApp messages through proxy, the proxy could be blocked. If this is the case it is possible to try by using a different proxy. WhatsApp warns that using a third-party proxy could expose your IP address to the proxy service.
