If you are a recent graduate in Engineering, IT or Accounting, you may find it hard to stand out from the crowd and secure a job opportunity or permanent residency in Australia. You may need to boost your score to meet the criteria for these goals. One way to do that is to enroll in a Professional Year Program.
A Professional Year Program (PYP) is a 44-week course that helps you develop the skills and knowledge you need to work in the Australian engineering sector. It includes classroom-based training on career development and management, as well as a 12-week unpaid, full-time internship with an Australian engineering company.
By completing a PYP successfully, you can earn five (5) migration points that can increase your chances of getting permanent residency in Australia.
A PYP is designed for international students who have an Australian Bachelor or Master Degree in an Engineering discipline (with at least two years of study in Australia). It bridges the gap between university and employment by teaching you the professional and practical skills that employers look for.
Professional Year program in Engineering
The Professional Year in Engineering by EEA (Engineering Education Australia) is a program that helps you develop your skills and network with the Australian engineering industry. It prepares you for work and leadership in your chosen field.
·Attendance
You must attend all the classes and internship/work placement hours of the Professional Year program. This means your attendance rate should be 100%.
· Illness and absence
If you arrive late for any class, your teacher will mark you as such. If you fall ill and cannot come to class, inform your provider before the class starts. You also need to show a medical certificate for your absence. Otherwise, it will count against your attendance.
If you have to miss any part of the program for any reason, let us and your provider know beforehand. This will allow us to help you catch up on the missed classes if possible. See the Deferrals section for more details. Your work placement is a crucial and beneficial part of the Professional Year program. If you get sick during this period, contact your host company and provider as soon as possible.
Follow the procedures that your provider has for reporting absences. Call your supervisor at your host company to inform them. Do not just send a text message or an email. That is not enough or appropriate.
·Deferrals, transfers and withdrawals
To request a change in your Professional Year, start date, continuation or provider, or to take a break or leave the program, click on the Request button below and fill in the relevant details
for a:
• transfer (to a new intake),
• deferral (to take a break) or
• withdrawal (to exit the program).
You will need to complete two forms and provide supporting documents / evidence for your request. You will also need to pay a $150 administration fee by credit card for transfer / deferral requests before we process them.
We will review your request and inform you if it is approved or declined. Please note that you cannot switch to another provider once you have started the program, as different providers have different course schedules and content timelines.
Conclusion
Studying engineering is very important. The professional year for engineers in Australia is a great opportunity for students to learn more about their chosen field of engineering. Engineers need to have more than technical skills to keep up with the fast-paced work environment.
They also need to have the 21st-century skills that are essential for succeeding in today’s dynamic world. We help students not only with the technical aspects but also with the important life skills.
