Uber is expanding its car-sharing service into North America

Uber plans to introduce peer-to-peer vehicle-sharing services into North America, starting with Toronto and Boston Uber announced the plans Thursday at the Go-Get product launch in London.

The ride-hailing and delivery company introduced a car-sharing service in Australia in 2000 following the acquisition of local company Car Next Door. Its service allows users to lease their cars and is now rebranded Uber Carshare.

Customers who reside within the application Carshare cities can use the app to search for and reserve cars, which can be rented per hour or day. Customers must drop off the rental vehicle where the vehicle was picked up. Uber has stated it will offer to price. But, owners will be able to decide on the price for their services and availability. The fuel is part of the price.

Uber has described this as a move towards sustainability as a part of its plan to reduce emissions. These goals were mentioned repeatedly at the event. In a Go-Get event in the spring of this calendar year, the application announced a range of new features and products that are aimed at attracting new customers, including teens who are as young as 13 and families who want to join accounts with people who prefer making a call and not using the application all.

Uber would not reveal where the car-sharing service could launch next. However, the company has a preference for high-density cities that have a lot of areas surrounding them that may require a car to travel.
