Samsung announced today that it is unveiling a “Samsung News” app that provides users with access to daily news from various newspapers. It replaces Samsung’s existing “Samsung Free” app and offers custom news feeds as well as evening and morning briefings on the most important stories of the day.
Samsung’s existing Samsung Free app, which gives users access to news stories as well as live TV, podcasts, and games, will be changed to Samsung News. As opposed to Samsung Free it is now an upgraded app focused on podcasts and news, as does Apple News.
Samsung News offers access to news articles from a range of news sources which include Axios, CNN, Fortune, Huffington Post, Newsweek, Reuters, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, and more. Samsung claims that additional news sources are expected to be included in the application in time.

The news feeds are accessible inside the app using classified feeds, or through the “Following” tab that you can personalize with your own preferences, based on what you’d like to read. Samsung News also includes daily briefings, which are distributed every day twice at the beginning of the day and again later in the night. Samsung News claims that these briefings are written by an editorial team composed of news editors who bring users the most important news stories of the day all in one place. It also allows users to listen to podcasts through the application.
