Fortnite on iOS and Google Play will be 18+

From January 30th, v13.40 of Fortnite on iOS and Google Play will become unavailable for players who are under the age of 18, Epic Games has announced. Even though Fortnite was taken off its iOS, macOS and Google Play stores in August of 2020 however, the game remains accessible to users who had it installed, however it’s been stuck with the v13.40 update, and has been glitchy. Users will also not be able to use V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-app currency, starting the 30th of January.

“We wish every version that we offer to utilize the latest set of Epic Online Services including parental controls, purchasing defaults and parental verification tools,” the company said in tweet. “We cannot make updates to the Fortnite game on these platforms because of Apple and Google’s limitations on Fortnite.

Even though Epic Games has addressed these issues with releases, Fortnite on iOS and Google Play devices can’t receive updates. This means that blocking access for those who is under the age of 18 was the only alternative available to Epic Games. To counter the FTC’s claim that Fortnite made players pay accidental purchases the company has removed the option to purchase V-Bucks.

It’s worth noting that the majority of players will not be affected by these new restrictions coming out over the next few days, since there are options to play the game’s popularity without needing to use either the App Store and Google Play stores. If, for instance you’d like to play using iOS or macOS it is possible to use GeForce Now. It is also possible to download the game directly to Android on Epic Games’ website.
