Amazon's latest service lets users purchase physical items

Amazon is unveiling a brand new shopping experience that is immersive named “Amazon Anywhere,” the company announced on Tuesday. The service will bring its online marketplace to gaming as well as mobile apps, beginning with the new Niantic Augmented Reality game Peridot.

Through Amazon Anywhere, the company will let users of gaming mobile, gaming, and AR apps search for and purchase physical items from Amazon without leaving the game or application. Peridot users now can connect their Amazon accounts to their game accounts and buy a t-shirt. To put it in context, Peridot is a pet simulator, however, it is a pet simulator that takes place entirely within an augmented real-time (AR). You can feed and play with, walk around, socialize, and breed your Peridots.

“After seamlessly linking your Amazon account to Peridot, you can find Peridot-branded products such as T-shirts, hoodies, phone accessories, and throw pillows featuring the artwork of magical creatures from the game,” Peridot wrote in a blog article. “You’ll see the familiar product details, images, availability, Prime eligibility, price, and estimated delivery date as you would in Amazon stores.”

After you hit”buy” and click the “buy” button, you can make a purchase by using your connected Amazon account, without having to leave the game. The products will be delivered to you just like other purchases from Amazon and you can monitor and manage your orders through your Amazon app.

Amazon says that purchases in virtual realms are restricted to the purchase of virtual currency as well as digital items that are available in the game, but it is looking to give players the possibility of buying physical goods which is why it’s offering the new service.
