A few weeks after Microsoft released a Google-powered ChatBot to its Edge browser Opera has followed suit, adding the generative AI chatbots powered with ChatGPT and ChatSonic in its two desktop-based browsers: Opera as well as Opera GX. The new tools are accessible in early access on all platforms for desktops according to the company.
Opera has also launched an option that lets you create AI prompts by highlighting text on a site or entering it into. Chatbots are also able to make a summary of webpages or articles and write posts on social media to you or assist you think of prompts. Users must manually turn off “AI prompts” in the settings menu in order to utilize this feature.
The company, which a Chinese company owns, plans on working to integrate chatbots into its browser sidebar. While ChatGPT can be used with text inputs, Opera states that ChatSonic’s chatbot is powered by GPT-4 allows users to create images using inputs of text.

“AI-generated contents are a game changer for browsing on the web. Our mission is to make use of these technologies to provide our users new capabilities for browsing by reimagining the way they create, learn and conduct research. Opera is currently developing its AI program to include AIGC for news, browsers gaming, and other products with its own solutions as well as existing and new partnerships,” Opera’s director of product Joanna Czajka said in a statement.
The company also said it is planning to unveil more AI-powered features later which will run using its own GPT-based model.
With the growing rise of generative AI that is gaining traction, more browsers may adopt the same approach and incorporate the use of AI-powered tools. Recently, Bravely introduced summarization features to the search tool and is currently experimenting with AI-focused features in its web browser.
